Gabeism

(Man, am I on fire today or what? Three posts in one day! Just like old times.)

Today I was searching for a snack for the kids which is entirely unrelated to the story but anyway, searching for a snack, head in the pantry and I hear Gabe say "I want phantom armor* for Christmas."

I said "Oh, does it really exist?"

He replies "I don't think so, so I'd like the Armor of God instead."

:)!

*phantom armor is from the video game The Legend of Zelda and the Spirit Tracks.

Life

Rob is away on his Reserves weekend and 5 of the 5 of us left at home have a little cold so we played hookie from church and are having one of our famous "pajama days". Since I have a cold I don't feel guilty ignoring some of the household chores to work on some of the more sedentary items on my to-do list. You know, really important things like knitting and blogging. Though, I have to confess that one of the knitted items on my to-do list is a Christmas present.

From last year (yikes!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Angel Baby
Elias is one of those babies that, when someone asks "Is he a good/easy baby?" you get to say "Yes!" and really mean it. Truly, all babies are good babies because they are all just doing what babies do but some are definitely happier/more content/less demanding/whatever and he fits into that category right now. You can often make him smile even when he wants to cry, he laughs a lot (and sometimes so hard he snorts), he is content in the bouncy seat, the swing or on his mat until he gets hungry or needs a new diaper of course, and he sleeps through the night two out of every three night which isn't too bad for a 2-month old. Needless to say, we are really enjoying his personality right now.
Lunch made to order
Not wanting to deal with cajoling a bunch of not-feeling-so-good kids to eat their lunch I made them each something I knew they would eat. Zion got pasta (we happened to have a bunch of plain pasta in the fridge already made) with butter and parmesan with olives on the side, Gabe got a PBJ, chips and banana and Gideon got his version of fish and chips. (Those are Finding Nemo fruit snacks. He also got some banana with today's ever so healthy lunch fare.)
This is was Zyrtec does to my little guy apparently. The day he got hives around his mouth from eating the yogurt bar I gave him some and this is how I found him a little while later. He was awake at least and the second I asked "Do you want to go outside and play?" he jumped right up. Then he got attacked by the ants.
Turn that frown upside down! ;)
Naptime
Zion's kitty, Eva, sure is getting big. She's becoming quite the good cat, just has to learn a few more kitty manners (like not jumping up on the table even when we aren't there to squirt her with the water bottle). She sure likes her girl (at the very least when her girl is sleeping). She has also been more attentive to me which has been helping me not miss Ben quite as much. Every little bit helps, his absence in our home is still glaringly apparent. Eva very much loves to hunt and once she's allowed outside (not until after her spay surgery!) I'm sure she'll be a bringer of gifts like our other kitty Maisy. Maisy who we watched hunt down and play with a big gray mouse the other day. A literal cat and mouse game.
Binky Buddy Pattern
I have written out my very first knitting pattern, I'm so excited. It's something very simple but still, it's mine. :) The idea came about after I knitted a hanging kitchen towel and realized that a much smaller version could replace the burp cloth I'd been shoving through the loop of my baby's binkies in order to keep it in place and easily findable. So I knit one and gave it away as a baby shower gift. I entered it into my projects journal on Ravelry and some people saw it and expressed interest in the pattern. I won't say how much time has passed *cough* but at last, here it is:
Rough Day
Poor Gideon is having a rough day. First, I let him try a rice krispie type bar that had yogurt in it. I wouldn't have let him have it except that his allergist gave the go ahead to try him on some dairy and Gideon has had them before and I never noticed a reaction. Granted, it has been a long time since he had one because that was before the allergist told us to cut out all dairy including things that were baked and cooked (like the bar). So I let him have it. He ate half and got little hives around his mouth. Now I feel bad because he had a reaction (i.e. he still likely can't have dairy even though his allergist keeps telling us he should have grown out of it by now) and I feel like a bad mom because I gave him something that made him react. *sigh* So for the first time in the year since we started seeing the allergist I broke down and gave him the oral antihistamine he was prescribed.
So I thought maybe he would have a fun time playing outside. And he did. Until he got attacked by biting ants. I had to come in and check Elias because I heard him start to cry and I get inside and am in here for a minute or two when I hear Gideon cry. Back outside I go. Gideon is standing at our back fence and he's crying. I can see that he's soaking wet and his head is covered in sand. This usually doesn't make him cry though so I look closer and Gideon holds up his hand and says "See." so calmly and shows me there's a big black ant there. I swipe it off not thinking anything of it and guide him up to the house and proceed to stripe him down. Ants are falling out of his clothes. I think I get them all and take him inside with just his diaper and sandals still on. Inside I go to take off his sandals and notice a black ant that is actually still in the process of biting him. That sucker has chomped down on my baby's pudgy ankle, he's trying to hard to bite the ant's body is actually waggling back and forth. I had a dickens of a time dislodging it so I could squash it mercilessly under a shoe. After him I had to squash three or four more of its brethren and that's just what I found while taking off Gideon's sandals. Poor baby. I gave him a quick bath to wash off the sand and cuddle him in his super soft towel and he feels better but darn it, what a day - and it's not even lunch time!
Before all that though he and I did puzzles together and I grabbed the camera to record his great funny giggle.
First Day Of School
It's that time of year again. My favorite time of year for many reasons. Cooler weather usually but this year we didn't so much have warmer weather so it doesn't feel quite as special.
Fall colors. They're coming, you can see some turning in those leaves. Oh yeah.
Pumpkin bread. Pumpkin pie. Pumpkin muffins. I might even try pumpkin pancakes this year. You get the picture.
But the bittersweet moment is sending Gabe off to school. Not only do I miss him during the day but he is most useful to have around the house especially when I'm stuck on the couch feeding Elias and I need something. He's my go-to guy.
Gabe was so excited for school to start. The morning of he came to find me at about 7:20. He said he wanted to make sure I was up. Then he asked if he could get his own breakfast. I'd planned on making waffles but he was so anxious to be ready I let him get his own. A Poptart. Oh well. Then the poor boy had to wait anyway. He kept asking over and over if it was time to go. Finally he just told me I should finish my breakfast after I took him to the bus stop because he was afraid of missing the bus. Silly boy. Rest assured we got out of the house in time and he didn't miss the bus.
The bus has been spotted and the kids start lining up. Gabe wasn't even going to look at me to say good bye until I told him to.
And there he goes without a second glance. Rob was able to come home early enough to pick him up after school so we both got to participate in the joy/sadness of the first day of school.
I believe this will be a good year for Gabe. I think there will also be a bigger adjustment for him because he was hoping to know some of his classmates and as it turns out he's stuck in a class of new faces. The night before school started the school held a "social" where the kids got to go and find out who their teacher is and find their classroom and get an ice cream treat. So it was only the night before school started that we found out that Gabe was put in a mixed first/second grade classroom. His new teacher said that there are 20 second graders and 6 first graders in her class (and she herself only discovered the night before that that she would be teaching a mixed class). It seems that Gabe is a little sad that none of the other 5 first graders were classmates of his last year. And he is especially disappointed that his friend Jordan (who happens to be a girl) isn't in class with him. At the same time he can't stop talking about how he gets two recesses. Today he said he also got to play with Unifix blocks and that was just like having a third recess.
So, yeah, he is likely going to have a really good year but I do hope that he makes new friends soon.
As for us at home we are going to be busy as well. Playdates, MOPS, Bible study and home preschool for Zion. She is super excited about that and was really disappointed that I didn't fit it in today except for a short story time. It will be interesting to see how this goes because as excited as she is she isn't serious about learning AT ALL. Though despite her distraction and goofing off she does seem to absorb some of what comes her way.
Busy, Busy
I have a back log of posts that I want to write and while I haven't gotten to them yet I have finished the mystery project (see photos below) for one special little girl.
I have also prepared one six-year old for his first day of school tomorrow. *sniff* Don't get me wrong. I am SO excited about Fall and school starting but the first few days of him being gone are so hard. For one, I miss him. Two, he's so darn helpful, just like his daddy, that his absence is way too noticeable.
I have cuddled and snuggled with my youngest-no-more. Gideon has been extra cuddly and snuggly lately and I can't get enough of him. He's practically edible and if you know me you know I have NO will power when it comes to nummy goodness.
I have nursed and changed and bottle fed and kissed and cooed at this little mister who is now a whopping two months old. His eyes are always that big and bright and the comment we hear the most, besides that he looks so much like his siblings, is "Wow, he's alert!" Yep, we've got another bright one, he studies everything. He is, as I prayed for, a very peaceful baby. (Unless of course his tummy is empty. ha ha)
Here it is, the "mystery project". I thought I might do a contest to whoever guessed what it was going to be but, yeah, yeah, I was BUSY. It is a good idea for the future though. I'll try to do something like that soon.
Apparently she really likes it. I had doubts that she would wear it as she is finicky to say the least when it comes to clothes and especially clothes that I made but she has worn it many times since I finished it and I don't even have to bribe or threaten.
She helped pick out the button herself. Must try to get a close up of the button, it's really cute. Sure, a picture. As soon as I'm less busy *snort*.
Off to bed. I have to get up early to get Gabe off to school. Eeeee! :)
Ben
We had the vet take a look at Ben. We just couldn't deal with not knowing what happened to him. As it turns out Ben had a urinary blockage that caused him to become toxic and his bladder to rupture. I'm a wreck. I feel terrible that we were gone when he needed us. I feel guilty for not noticing any signs of sickness even though, in looking back, there were none, and for not being available when he needed me. I miss him something fierce. His happy face around the house, sitting in the window on the milk box especially and at night in our bed and I keep expecting to see him and go through the motions of his still being around like making sure my bedroom door is open during the day in case he's sleeping on the bed and needs to get out. It sucks.
Saturday I received an e-mail from the Catster website, a happy birthday message for Ben since we'd guessed he was born in August sometime. Ben was 7. This is his page if you want to read about him.
Here are a few photos I "stole" back from Catster and Dogster of Ben. He was such a big love.
Ben as a kitten. He used to steal Towzer's bed, always laying right in the middle. Sometimes Towzer was brave enough to join him. Often times Ben would pick a "fight" and bite Towzer's cheek until Towzer played with him.
Ben used to squeeze in between the window and screen in the upstairs of our Rhode Island house. Such a character.
Ben and Maisy. Always a lover my Ben.
Sad News
We've returned early from a wonderful weekend getaway and I will return and write about that soon. For now, I'll take care of the sad part. Within minutes of leaving the restaurant where we celebrated Rob's birthday with a super yummy dinner my cell phone rang, it was our house sitter. She came to our house this evening and found my favorite cat, Ben, passed away. He was lying in between the food bowl and water bowl and almost looked like he was sleeping. I'm shocked and confused and so very sad and I feel terrible that this happened on Rob's birthday and that we had to break the kids' hearts by cutting our vacation short.
Ben was found by a police office in the middle of the Jamestown Bridge in Rhode Island. He was a tiny ball of gray fur, covered with fleas and filthy. He'd been abandoned there, we guess, most likely from someone who was trying to get rid of an unwanted kitten by tossing him over the bridge. He was blessed that he somehow managed to stay on the bridge.
When the office tried to catch him Ben panicked and ran. He was moments from dashing in front of a moving vehicle when the officer stepped in his path and scooped him up. He was blessed he didn't get crushed.
The officer brought him to the animal hospital where I worked where the doctor had to remove one of his hind legs because it was so damaged. But Ben survived and had such a great attitude.
He picked me. In one look I knew what he knew, he was going home with me. He's been my special boy since then. Such a funny character. Such a great heart. I named him Benedetto which means "wellblessed".
When he stretched up he was at least as tall as the top of the kitchen counter. Not that he would do any thing so naughty as to try to steal from the counter. He had great manners. He loved tuna but that was the only thing he ever begged for.
He was faster than our four-legged cats and could jump to the top of our six-foot fence without a problem.
Frequently when he wanted in he'd go to the front door and sit on the milk box and stare in the window until some one opened the door. With the exception of the aforementioned tuna, he never yowled to get what he wanted.
He was such a sweet boy. I just don't understand. This may seem so silly to write about but my heart is really breaking and I don't know what else to do. It was a year ago that we lost Spot unexpectedly as well. She has been on my mind a lot lately as well. Now this.
My last photo of Ben and not a very good one. I'd been thinking lately that I needed to get a photo of him sitting on the milk box looking in the window but I didn't. Now I feel worse than ever.
A Link
hyperbole and a half Hilarious blog.
The only reason why I wrote an entire post about this is because I just found this blog today so the page was up on my computer.
I have to shut my computer down before I go to bed.
Therefore I have to close the page.
I didn't want to forget to go back and read more.
Where, oh where, can I put the link so I don't forget to A) go back and read more and B) what the blog address is?
This seemed like it would be a logical place to keep it.
Thanks for your help.
Today
Today was lovely. It started bright and clear and warm. None of that early morning fog we so often have that doesn't clear until after lunch. Yes, even in the summer. Especially in the summer. Rob got to leave work early for the day to go golf at a work sponsored event. So often when Daddy comes late that just makes the day crawl, you know? But not today. The day sped by almost too fast even. The kids didn't even get dressed until near dinner time as we spent the day enjoying activities indoors. (Zion and Gabe built a fort and were even able to convince Gideon not to destroy it.) Zion dressed first but only because she'd dug into the dress up box and wanted to wear one of her princess dresses. Later we ran out to Target and I let her wear it. Twice in the last week I've let her wear her dress up clothes out to run an errand. And why not? She enjoys it and I love watching her step out not thinking for a moment that she might be considered a bit odd for her choice in clothes and we get lots of smiles from the people we meet. Well, we usually do anyway, when I go out with all four kids. Very frequently we get the "Boy, you sure have your hands full." to which I respond "Better full than empty." And sometimes we get people telling us how many they had. Last night I had a lovely conversation with an older couple who had nine children and now have 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. What a huge blessing! I also heard two words out of Zion's mouth that I've never heard before. "I'm tired." I believe I said "What?!" and she said it again. My ears did not deceive. I told her that was good because it was bedtime and she agreed that it was good and made a dash for the stairs. Bedtime has long passed and she went along willingly. I'm near certain she had an ulterior motive for wanting to go to bed but I've yet to discover it. Well, that's my ramblings and I'd best be off to bed. Elias has already been put down and who knows when he'll wake up.
A Letter
Dear Children,
our vehicle does not have a bathroom. NONE of our vehicles have EVER had a bathroom and aside from the time that I made Gabe pee in an empty Snapple bottle because he waited to tell us he had to go until we were out in the middle of no where our vehicles will likely never have anything close to a toilet. So, pray tell, why do you INSIST on waiting until we are in the car before you tell us you have to go? PLEASE when we are in a building with a perfectly good bathroom, whether it be our house, a restaurant, church, whatever, tell us you need to go then, BEFORE we leave and are getting buckled in to our seats. Things will go much better for you, I guarantee, if you can remember this one small detail.
"One-Month" Check
So it was a little late, Elias will be 6-weeks old tomorrow, but we got his one-month check up done today. Since his regular pediatrician was out last week when the whole to-do happened with the rash and allergy diagnosis we had a lot to catch up on. I was able to show his doctor pictures of the rash (gotta love those iPhones) and he said he was really impressed with us since Elias' skin is totally clear now.
(Am I the only one that gets a little thrill when a doctor tells me "good job!"?)
Elias is up to 11lb 1oz! It was only a week ago that he was 10lb 3oz so I'm really excited about that. He is nursing better but still getting a lot of formula as well. I also wonder if he's gaining better now that he and I are off dairy. Dairy allergies are notorious for causing growth restriction. It's just a thought.
He is also a whopping 23 inches long! Holy cow! This kid is almost two feet long already! This is mostly notable when we try to put footie pajamas on him. He is growing out of his clothes. I know it's to be expected but it still makes me a little sad. Aw, such cute little PJs and clothes that he'll never wear again. :( *sigh* I guess the fact that he's growing out of the super cute monkey PJs he wore last night is soothed a little that he's moving into the super cute robot "I'm nuts about Mommy" PJs I found at Target tonight. he he he
It was also the last time he is going to fit into the spunky monkey outfit he's wearing in the picture. I just had to take a picture before they went away for good. I'm all sentimental like that.
Bad Hair Day
Everybody has 'em. Unless, of course, you don't have any hair. And even then, depending on your outlook, that could mean that EVERY day is a bad hair day. Bad because you don't have any hair ya know?
But nothin' makes a bad hair day worse than having it immortalized FOREVER in photographs. hee hee hee
Zion hates to have her hair combed. She hates even more to have it put in bands. She doesn't care that it will stay out of her face that way or that it will look cute. She just hates it. But she loves playing in the sink. She loves "washing" dishes. And the other day apparently she used her wet hands to brush her hair out of her face. A lot. And this cute do was the result.
So, OK, the top and back looks a little wonky but it actually made the sides look fuller. She almost looks like she has thicker hair for once. Might have to try to recreate this sometime.
And keep encouraging her to wash those dishes!
The Goings On
Lots of things going on here. I'm sure that's the last thing you would have guessed, us being a family of 6 and all, I'm sure you expected things to be church quiet around here. Rob has taken Elias upstairs to try to get him to sleep so I'm taking the opportunity to download some pictures that I will now share with you. Don't you feel lucky? :)
First we've got a smiley baby. He's such a sweetie. Nursing a lot better, still has an odd moment or two where it takes him a moment to figure it all out but in general, SO much better. He is still getting a lot of formula supplementation though (and with a hypoallergenic formula that is naturally stinkin' expensive) and I'm trying to work toward lowering that amount.
We also have some smiley fries. Fries! Or as Gideon says "Pies!" *snicker* He cracks me up. He gets so passionate about certain things and this is demonstrated by sheer volume. Oh how he gets excited about his pies, er... I mean fries.
We have a new project on the needles. Actually a few but this is the one that I'm most excited about. I've cast on 59 stitches here can you guess what it will become? *grin*
Yesterday we had an activity with Moms Club at a local park. Besides my playgroup this was one of the first activities that we've had a chance to participate in like this. It was a dinosaur themed play day. Gabe and Zion won cupcakes in the cake walk, they all colored and made dinosaur crafts and joined in when it came time to play with the parachute and what kid doesn't love the parachute?
There was also bubbles. This was Gideon's absolute favorite part and I kept losing him briefly only to find him back at the bubbles. He may have been part of the reason why so much of the bubble solution ended up on the ground, my apologies to the play day hosts. If you didn't have like 6 gallon sized jugs of bubbles I might feel like I need to buy you more. Still, for all the time Gideon spent with the bubbles I'm not sure how I didn't get a picture of him
And because it was a dinosaur day Elias had to don his dino shirt. I would have had the others do the same but Elias is the only one who actually had a dinosaur shirt. We don't really do dinos around here much. Thomas the Train, Lightning McQueen and Mario, yes, dinosaurs - not so much.
Yes, it's July here and my kids are wearing winter coats at the park. What can I say? It's Washington and we're having a crummy summer. Truth be told I thought it was kind of a relief. I didn't have to worry about keeping sunscreen on the kids or keeping Elias in the shade and at least it wasn't raining. :) We really only have a few weeks left before school starts and this one is a big first grader. I am feeling the whoosh of time flying by and I don't like it one bit. He still fits on my lap though mostly even if he can read me the story instead of the other way around.
Zion has a new favorite dress and I can't tell you how thrilled and relieved I am. It's one thing to buy her an outfit and have her hate it but a whole 'nother thing when you spend hours working on something only to have her reject it entirely (like the poncho she swore she wanted and won't wear). But this outfit was NOT voted off the island, she wore it two days in a row and put it on again today but I told her I probably outta wash it before she wears it again. All in all, I like the pattern. Now that I've made it I would made an adjustment or two (the straps are too flimsy and too long) but I have no complaints about the yarn. It's cashmerino, a cashmere and wool blend that is SO super duper soft! Like OH. MY. WORD. Soft. Yummy.
And she and I got to go out and pick out some buttons for it and she is in love with the butterflies. Therefore, the dress is now "The Butterfly Dress".
How cute is that face? Like OH. MY. WORD. Cute. I love this girl of mine, ain't no doubt.
Elias Update
Elias got a lot worse from Monday night to Tuesday morning. When I got him up the rash had moved over nearly his entire body. However, the areas that were the worst Monday were practically clear Tuesday which hinted that the rash was on its way out. And despite his slightly grumpy expression in the photo he didn't seem to be bothered too much by it, maybe a little when he was trying to sleep but otherwise not so much.
And I'm happy to report that the rash miraculously disappeared as fast as it came. With the exception of a few baby pimples on his head his skin is clear. Wow! Thanks so much for your prayers!
On a not so good note, the doctors called to let us know that the blood panel revealed a dairy allergy. Dang it! Part of me if relieved that it wasn't worse but part of me is uber frustrated. At the very least, because of Gideon's allergy, we are familiar with this. Only now it effects MY diet. As long as I breastfeed I can't have dairy either. At least that is what we know right now. We are receiving a referral to the same pediatric allergist that treats Gideon and then we'll know more.
And I thought the roller coaster ride was over. Silly me.
Not The Same
When I'd hoped to take pictures today to celebrate Elias turning one-month old (which actually happened yesterday but we all agreed to forget about that, remember?) this isn't what I'd intended.
Elias woke up looking like this:
Keeping it g-rated here.
This one was taken with my cell phone at the doctor's office so the quality is poor but it shows a close up of the white circles within the red areas.
Poor baby. :(
It's all over his neck and cheeks too as well as his arms, legs, bum and around his belly button. Oddly there isn't any rash on his chest or back. See how worried he looks (I think he's actually worried that he'll never eat again, he was waiting for his milk at the moment).
The doctor we saw today is concerned to see a rash like this in so young a baby. She sent us straight to the lab to have a CBC and allergy panel done (please pray it's not a cat allergy. I know that sounds odd but Zion will be heartbroken if we have to get rid of Eva and she won't understand at all). In case it's an allergy I'm to stay away from seafood and peanuts. Darn it. But we should get the blood work back in a few days. Until then we have to keep an eye out for blisters or difficulty breathing, both of which would require an ER visit.
I have to say I was a bit nervous having to go to the lab with him. It was so reminiscent of heading there with Gideon when he was so sick a little over a year ago and them not being able to hit a vein. Then having to take him to the ER and having them stick him over and over trying to place the IV and draw blood, then being in the hospital for a week. Ugh. I was ever so grateful when the tech hit a vein on the first try and I told her so. God bless the nurses!
New Math
I know why God gave us another son. Because 3 boys = 1 Zion. She is a force to be reckoned with. She is so darn funny. The attention span of a gnat. But really funny.
She loves Elias so much. I let her feed him all by himself the other day. Look at the pride on her face. She loves helping to take care of him.
Later Elias was hanging out on the floor and he spit up. Not a big deal but she got quite alarmed. She yelped "Oh no! Your baby spilled up!" ha ha ha (OK, so probably I'm the only one to think it's so adorable being the mom and all, but still, had to share.)
Today after church we stopped by a local park that we'd yet to visit. It doesn't have much for play equipment, just one slide and one swing, both of which are too big for Gideon though he doesn't agree, but the thing that caught my eye when we would drive by was a sliver of sand on the river under the cover of tall shade trees. Ooo, if the river isn't too fast that would be perfect for wading with the kids. It is confirmed. Kid tested, mother approved! We will be going back.
Even though we weren't prepared for water play we let the kids go in and Gabe surprised us by soaking himself in the river. He was soaked to the skin. I told him he'd have to take his clothes off for the ride home and he obliged by striping right there in the parking lot. I had only meant down to the undies but oh well. When we got home Zion told him, in a very bossy tone (I think bossy is only one of two tones she possesses really) "You need to go in and put some clothes on, Mister Boy!" I snorted in laughter. On the inside only of course. She seriously doesn't need encouragement in the bossiness area.
On another note, Elias turned ONE MONTH OLD today! Wow. Time flies! Doesn't everybody with a newborn say that? I know I've probably said it every time. Oh well. It makes it no less true. I had great ambitions for the day but between waking, nursing, churching, lunching, wading, nursing, and heading out to my knitting group I totally failed to take pictures of him today. So tomorrow (I hope) to take pictures and later we won't mention that they are actually one-month and one-day pictures.
He's nursing a bit better and still getting supplemented with some formula (but I just bought a better breast pump which I hope will both help increase my supply and give me extra milk to supplement with) but I confess, I'm a chicken and haven't had him in to check his weight. Neither my doctor or my midwife said I needed to but I feel like I should still I'm just afraid. I'm a dork, I know. He's doing really well in all other aspects though so I'm trying to worry about the numbers. Anyway, stay tuned for what I hope to be some really cute pictures. :)
p.s. I'm watching The Goonies right now.
Jameson's Fourth Heavenly Birthday Party
Another July has come and another opportunity to celebrate the life of my nephew Jameson and to raise funds for the lending library that is in his name at the ARC (which you can make a donation to if you'd like).
He was lovely and special and he touched lives where ever he went and he lived a full life in his short five years.
Now he's gone and all we have are memories so once a year we get together to celebrate his life.
We write messages to Jameson on paper and attach them to balloons to send up to Heaven.
Messages written and awaiting the countdown for release.
3, 2, 1, let 'em go!
My cousin Cheryl and Elias get to have a one-on-one about future grandbabies (mostly, how hard it is to wait for them - the conversation was somewhat one sided).
Gideon's favorite thing to do is bury cars in gravel and find them again.
Zion would probably be hard pressed to decide if her favorite part is access to a bunch of sweets or...
...playing with one of her best friends, Abby.
There was also live entertainment this year. Besides karaoke and Rock Band that is. May Palmer, the Queen of Soul has an amazing spirit and an even better voice.
She provided lots of opportunity for laughter and dancing.
Gideon wasn't sure what to think of the volume but he couldn't hold out and started drumming the table.
Elias, on the other hand, pretty much slept the whole time.
Ahoy, mateys!
Gabe found a friend there named Luke who also had short blond hair and a grey shirt and I kept mixing the two up all day. Gideon has found a different patch of gravel to bury toys in.
Elias and I found a nice place to hunker down (he's under the blanket - the blanket that I knit for him) toward the end to just listen to the music and watch everybody have fun.
Oooo, Jessa's got a boyfriend. ;)
A good friend of the family is Billy. My kids adore him. Gabe especially because Billy saved the day when they were staying at my sister's when Elias was born and her Wii wouldn't play her new game. A game that Gabe had been chomping at the bit to play. So Billy brought his Wii over along with a black controller (super cool in Gabe's mind) and made it work.
At the end, donning pajamas and a very sleepy stare, Zion can still get some hip action going. The funniest thing is, I didn't even know she had hip action.
And there ends another perfect celebration of a perfect life.
